Himsagar/Khirsapat (হিমসাগর/খিরসাপাত) is widely regarded as the king of Bangladeshi and West Bengali mangoes and for good reason. Grown predominantly in the fertile orchards of Satkhira, Meherpur, and Chapainawabganj, this legendary variety is distinguished by its thin golden-yellow skin, almost entirely fiber-free pulp, and an aroma so intoxicating that it fills the room the moment the skin is broken.
Unlike many commercial mango varieties, Himsagar is harvested entirely naturally. Our fruits are sourced directly from trusted family orchards where zero chemical ripening agents (carbide or ethylene-based) are used. Mangoes are tree-ripened or orchard-ripened in traditional hay-bed clusters, preserving the full depth of flavor that has made Himsagar a cultural icon across Bengal for generations.
Flavor Profile: The taste is unmistakably rich a perfect balance of deep sweetness and mild, refined tartness. The pulp is dense, smooth, and almost custard-like in texture. Brix (sugar) content typically measures between 18°–22°, among the highest of any Bangladeshi mango variety. Every bite delivers a flood of sweet juice with warm floral undertones that linger long after the fruit is finished.
Origins & Heritage: Himsagar is a centuries-old heirloom variety, believed to have originated in Murshidabad, West Bengal, and gradually naturalized across the southwestern districts of Bangladesh. The name itself "Hima" (snow) and "Sagar" (ocean) is a poetic reference to the cool, white sweetness of the pulp. Local farmers have cultivated Himsagar without hybridization for over 200 years, and the variety remains true to its original character.
Sourcing Commitment: Every batch we supply is hand-picked by experienced orchard workers at the peak of maturity. Fruits are individually inspected, sorted by size and ripeness consistency, and packed in ventilated crates lined with dry rice straw the same traditional packing method that has protected Himsagar through transport for decades. We do not wash, wax, or apply any post-harvest chemical treatment.
Best Enjoyed: Himsagar is best eaten fresh and chilled simply cut, slice, and serve. It is equally exceptional as a base for aam pora sherbet (roasted mango drink), mango lassi, or Bengali mango mishti (sweetened mango dessert). Due to its extremely high juice content and soft skin, it is not ideal for pickling or long-term storage, but it freezes well as pulp.
Whether you are a mango enthusiast, a Bangladeshi family sending back home-quality fruit to loved ones, or simply someone who has never experienced the real Himsagar this is as authentic as it gets.
